Portrait of an Alumnus: Udo Looser 罗吾德
Udo Looser studied mechanical engineering at the former University of Karlsruhe (TH). After starting his career in Germany, his path led him to China, where he now works as an interim manager.
What valuable experiences and insights from your studies still influence you today?
Studying at KIT (then: University of Karlsruhe TH) is part of the ticket to the professional world. For me, the broad-based mechanical engineering course was an excellent basis and gave me options for my career - at the start of my career and afterwards. Ultimately, this led me to China over 25 years ago, where I have been working as a manager ever since. For some time now, I have been working as an interim manager for German companies in China. It all started at KIT.
What added value do you gain from being a member of the alumni network?
The successful management of companies as well as the diverse professional activities thrive on networks and active participation in them. I hope that the KIT alumni network can develop into such a network. Sector-specific and regional alumni networks are particularly interesting in order to be able to focus the exchange in these networks. For example, the KIT alumni network in China has more than 500 members.
What is your vision for KIT?
I would like to see a university that inspires people in teaching and research to work on solving our future challenges. One that prepares us for professional life, promotes creativity and helps to develop entrepreneurship. That cultivates a diverse, open and appreciative culture regardless of origin or background.
